Health practitioners in Colorado say social-distancing efforts have added momentum to the growth of telehealth and telemedicine, and created opportunities to fill a growing gap in access to health care in rural areas like Southwest Colorado.

Ann hails from Newberg, Oregon
and is currently a Senior at Fort Lewis College studying Public Health and minoring in Chemistry. Along with studying, she plays NCAA D2 lacrosse and received Honorable Mention All-Conference for defense (2018) as well as Honorable Mention Academic All-Conference (2019/2020). After graduating from FLC she plans on attending an accelerated nursing program to become a registered nurse.

COVID / testing information: San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) reminds community members that the La Plata County Call Center is a resource for general questions about COVID-19 testing, testing locations, Health Care Providers accepting new patients (to assist in providing testing orders), Executive and Public Health orders, reopening guidance for businesses, and other COVID-19-related information. Appointments for testing are not made through the call center, however to schedule a testing appointment with Cedar Diagnostics, visit cedardx.com or call 247.0937. To reach the La Plata County Call Center call 970.385.8700, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The La Plata County Automated information line is available 24-7 at 382.6205.

San Juan Basin Public Health and Mercy Regional Medical Center Increase Community Testing Capacity for COVID-19 in La Plata County
San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) and Mercy Regional Medical Center are partnering to provide diagnostic (PCR) COVID-19 testing 6 days a week at Mercy’s Horse Gulch location. Testing will be available Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 1 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. Testing will start on Thursday, May 7th. Read the release

The Colorado Behavioral Health & Wellness Summit is currently seeking proposals for presentations on relevant and/or emerging topics on the behavioral health field including substance use and wellness programming. The Summit will engage the Colorado community to break down silos statewide and to bridge gaps in communication and collaboration. Additionally, the Summit will feature a series of workshops and trainings focused on the LGBTQ+ community. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded nearly $165 million to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in rural communities. These investments will support 1,779 small rural hospitals and provide additional funding to 14 HRSA-funded Telehealth Resource Centers (TRCs) to provide technical assistance on telehealth to help rural and underserved areas combat COVID-19. Support group for Colorado RNs and LPNs are on the front line dealing with the Coronavirus public health crisis
|
Colorado Nurses Association is offering voluntary support groups to aid in shared problem solving. The group is facilitated by experienced RNs and APRNs and hosted through a HIPAA compliant telephonic platform.
|
When: Tuesdays, 7pm – 8pm and groups will run weekly through June 23, 2020.
|
Cost: No-cost for all Colorado RNs and LPNs. Peer support groups are not intended to replace treatment, therapy or self-help groups.
|
Attendance is limited for each scheduled group and registration is on a first come first served basis.
|
|
|
|

What should architecture be beyond COVID-19 for Medical facilities, Housing, Public spaces, Transport facilities, and the Workplace?
Architects, urban designers and interior designers (student also welcome) are invited to submit projects that provide possible solutions to how the built environment should be re-designed to prevent the spread of future pandemics.

We are one of the 10 Regional Public Health Training Centers designated by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) to provide training to professionals addressing public health issues. We serve Region VIII – which includes Colorado, Montana, North and South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
