Health Equity Guide Online Course
Feb. 22 - March 29
9:00 am -10:00 am MST
“Health equity” is an increasingly popular topic in public health conferences, events, and publications. This course is based on a guidebook developed by the Metro Denver Partnership for Health. The guidebook and this course are intended as tools for public health practitioners who are serious about walking their health equity talk but aren’t quite sure how to get started. It aims to prepare its users to close gaps in health status that result from systemic, avoidable, and unjust policies and practices that create barriers to opportunity for certain people.

We are looking for team members for the Montezuma County Community Intervention Program (CIP)- a mobile crisis prevention and response pilot. The program will offer free response for a broad range of non-criminal crises, including mental illness problems, homeless support, intoxication or substance use concerns, dispute resolution, welfare checks, and basic first aid. Services are confidential and voluntary, and transportation and referral to additional services can also be provided. Additionally, with referrals and follow-up from the CIP team, future crises can be lessened or averted. There will be two response teams with a behavioral health clinician and an emergency medical technician (EMT). The clinicians will be employed by Axis and the EMT’s will be employed by Cortez Fire Protection District- the program is overseen by Montezuma County.
|
The CIP initiative is the result of a collaborative, grassroots effort that began in 2019. Community stakeholders, including local governments, county health and human services, concerned citizens, health providers, and law enforcement, began meeting to discuss ways to proactively address the growing social, safety, health, and substance use crisis overtaking the community. The CIP initiative is the ultimate tool in community-based outreach to underserved populations by meeting those in crisis where they are and when they need it most.
