SWCAHEC Shares Stories of Strength and Resilience in the Colorado Equity Compass

SWCAHEC received a grant from the Colorado Equity Compass (CEC) to submit digital stories and videos about Social Determinants of Health affecting community members in Southwestern Colorado. The Colorado Equity Compass is a non-profit organization that focuses on using data and related stories to understand the issues affecting health and wellness throughout the state. CEC’s focus on promoting health equity has led to a compilation of diverse stories from across Colorado, providing a platform for better understanding the challenges and resilience of diverse community members. SWCAHEC is proud to be one of many organizations to provide stories and we appreciate CEC’s support and leadership in this project. Highlighted stories below.

Imo Succo's Indigenous Peer Recovery work focuses on health equity and access to substance abuse recovery programs that meet the needs of diverse community members in SW Colorado. Imo uses her lived experience and her deep connection to her culture and community to provide support and peer recovery for those struggling with substance use issues. Her work uses programming influenced by Native culture and tradition and she reinforces community strengths and provide connections and relationship building for Native community members in the SW region.

This interactive series offers health care providers and other staff working in health care settings strategies to name, normalize, and validate worries and experiences during this pandemic and beyond. By understanding stress along a continuum, participants will learn how to manage stress and loss, increase capacity to prevent burnout, elevate connectedness and mindfulness, and promote self-efficacy and quality patient care.

The Communications Specialist works with program and emergency response staff to develop communications materials such as talking points, media advisories, articles, announcements, documents, marketing materials, and creative/media assets; adheres to the related policies and procedures; assists in the production of strategic messaging; maintains external media and partner relationships; and supports the Director of Communications. A Bachelor's degree in communications, graphic design, public relations, public health or related field and one year of related communications experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above are required. San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) is hiring a Substance Use Prevention Coordinator, responsible for performing community-wide outreach and program promotion in support of contracts. The position will focus on project planning; facilitating and coordinating task forces and/or coalitions to engage community members in local public health initiatives; collaborating with partners and stakeholders to provide timely education and communication regarding program initiatives; providing trainings and technical assistance to community stakeholders to build their capacity to engage in initiatives through understanding of community organizing, sustainability and equity concepts; supporting required monthly reporting and program evaluation for funders and internal needs; utilizing data collection tools and methodologies for program analysis; evaluating and monitoring program data and risk indicators to assess conditions; and assisting in writing grant proposals, concept papers and other materials to obtain funding. Currently, the role primarily facilitates and coordinates the Recognizing Opportunities Around Resilience Coalition (@ROARLaPlata), while building and nurturing relationships with community partners. The position does not provide direct service with individuals in crisis. An associate’s degree and two years of healthcare, public health or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job is required. A bachelor's degree and experience with community organizing is preferred.
