The CDC has recently issued a Health Advisory about opioids and fatal opioid overdoses during the COVID19 pandemic.

Data included in the report show a marked increase in opioid overdose deaths in the state of Colorado. Recommendations include increasing Naloxone education and availability in communities and continuing provider and community education about the danger of opioids and risk factors for opioid overdose.

SWCAHEC is committed to work with community partners to prevent opioid overdose deaths through education and training.

Community Volunteers Launch "CoronaDoc" Information Program

San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) is pleased to announce CoronaDoc, a confidential volunteer program to assist local employers, agencies, schools, and other organizations in educating their employees/members about COVID-19 and best practices for prevention, reducing spread, treatments, upcoming vaccine distribution, and more. The program is focused on short presentations delivered by medical professionals followed by question and answer sessions for participants.

The program is approved and supported by SJBPH but implemented by volunteer administrators and doctors.

Racism and Oppression in Health Care Webinar January 19th

In recognition of the deleterious effects of racial disparities in health care, SIG 31 and the Colorado Nurses Association is sponsoring a virtual presentation entitled: Checking our Vital Signs: Racism & Oppression in Health Care, a web-based training that will take place on January 19, 2021, from 6 to 9 PM. There is no cost to attend this event but you must register and space is limited.
We are pleased and honored to have presenters who have a depth of experience training health care professionals using an Intercultural Development Continuum and a program they have developed to help us identify and think through ways of addressing systemic oppression both in our internal experience and our professional roles. The presenters are led by Ms. Deran Young, LCSW, MSW, MPA, who has vast experience in intersectional mental health, diversity, social justice, and organizational behavior. She is an innovative leader, social worker, and activist. She has global clinical experience with a work history that spans the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia. She and her team will bring the Intercultural Development Continuum training to Colorado Nurses. Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to explore the topic of racial disparities from the inside out. Register early, space is limited.
