Did You Know?

SWCAHEC, with support from both the Rocky Mountain Health Foundation and Centura Health Equity and Advancement Fund, is working with a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to create curriculum for a Community Health Worker Certificate. This certificate will teach professional Community Health Worker competencies with a focus on serving rural and underserved communities. The CAB members are participating in a pilot of the training and lending insight into course content and teaching modalities. Each CAB member brings his or her perspective as a community member in the Four Corners to the curriculum and all are sharing their insights into the community health issues most impacting their communities and the region today. We are grateful to have new collaborators working with SWCAHEC to create training programs that address health inequities and increase the diversity of our health workforce in SW Colorado. Check out our webpage for CAB Member Bios!

She is currently a senior at Fort Lewis College and is studying Public Health with plans to graduate in the spring. As a senior she is working as a Public Health Research Assistant for FLC in partnership with SWCAHEC.

This program will help prepare her for a career in nursing, by giving her insights on nursing career pathways and hearing the stories of other Native American / Alaskan Native nurses and their education paths.
