La Plata County’s Public Health Department has moved!

The majority of La Plata County’s Public Health Department programs has moved to 185 Suttle Street. Birth and death certificates, environmental health and community health programs such as WIC, harm reduction and health insurance literacy are now available in their new location in Bodo Park behind the Durango Comfort Inn and Suites.

The public health clinic and water lab will remain at 281 Sawyer Drive in Bodo Park until March when construction at their respective new sites will be complete. The clinic will be located on the first floor of 150 Mercury Drive in the Axis Building south of the Durango Mall, offering an opportunity to coordinate services with a crucial community partner.

Everyday interactions cause intense feelings of anxiety and fear that disrupt relationships, daily routines, and performance at work and school. Explore the symptoms of social anxiety disorder, learn what the causes are, how it is treated, and strategies to manage symptoms.

The Colorado Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation & Access Program (CoPPCAP) is offering this ECHO series to give participants the baseline knowledge and skills needed to assess and treat pediatric mental/behavioral health conditions in primary care. Sessions provide a brief didactic overview of the topic followed by participant-initiated, case-based discussion.

The 2025 CASCHEW Conference will be held Friday, March 28th – Sunday, March 30th at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Colorado Springs.

This year's conference is being sponsored by the Colorado Community Engagement Alliance Against Health Disparities (CO-CEAL), the CU DFM Research Alliance (State Networks of Colorado Ambulatory Practices and Partners and the Practice Innovation Program), and the Peer Mentored Care Collaborative (PMCC). At CASCHEW 2025, we will focus on engaging Colorado communities to advance health equity by moving from dialogue to action.

Endocrine Explained

This series will cover the highest yield endocrinology conditions encountered in the primary care setting, focusing on recognition, initial diagnostic testing and basic management of endocrinopathies pending subspecialist involvement. Sessions include brief didactic presentations by endocrinology experts and discussion of participant-provided cases. Participants are highly encouraged to bring de-identified patient cases for group discussion and expert consultation.

WEBINARS, TRAININGS AND CONFERENCES

    • Training - The Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) is excited to announce we are now offering a virtual, two-day Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) Workshop in collaboration with Anduril, LLC, exclusively for Colorado healthcare professionals! Two additional sections were added for 2025 due to the high demand and interest! The workshop will equip you with essential skills to effectively support individuals at risk of suicide. Learn how to establish a collaborative relationship, assess risk, and implement proven interventions for crisis management and emotion regulation. The format of the training will be two 8-hour live online sessions. Attendance is mandatory for both days. Training Dates: OSP has 4 opportunities to participate, applicants will be notified if they are accepted at least 3 weeks prior to training. The available dates in 2025 are as follows:
      • March 17 and 18
      • April 10 and 11
      • April 28 and 29
      • Time: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM MST (both days)
      • Certification: Attendance on both consecutive days is mandatory for certification. Failure to not actively participate during both days will result in no certificate.

    The Disproportionately Affected Populations Liaison coordinates and works in parallel with the Community Action and Engagement Regional Coordinators and other staff to ensure cohesive coordination across all ten Colorado regions; with a focus on services for the liaison's population of focus. Their role is to understand health disparities and other issues related to their population of focus, as well as resources available to support them and to assist LPHAs, community-based organizations and other entities across the state in assessing and identifying barriers to communicable disease prevention, immunizations and overall health and wellbeing. The Disproportionately Affected Population Liaison is responsible for ensuring coordinated support and resources within each region, when possible, including vaccine access and other disease prevention opportunities. The DAP Liaison is also responsible for identifying outreach opportunities where attendees may have an opportunity to engage with CDPHE to learn about public health issues affecting their communities, discuss community health needs, seek support, receive resources when available, and in some cases, receive immunizations.

    CU Nursing Clinical Teaching Faculty Position (Open Rank), located in Durango

    The CU College of Nursing is seeking a full-time faculty member within the Clinical Teaching Faculty Series to teach in simulation and other clinical environments. The work location for this faculty position is in Durango, Colorado on the Fort Lewis College campus.

    Ideal candidates will have teaching and scholarship experience. This individual will also hold a faculty appointment of Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Professor within the Clinical Teaching Track. Faculty rank will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community members from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
