Axis Health System offers support for wildfire distress
|
Durango, CO: The 416 and Burro wildfires can bring up many challenging emotions. Axis Health System (AHS), a local healthcare nonprofit, is offering a variety of counseling options for people who are in crisis or having difficulty coping with disaster-related stress. Community members have the following options:
|
Schedule a free AHS counseling visit. People who are experiencing distress caused by the 416 or Burro wildfires may schedule three free 30-minute counseling visits. This resource is available only for new AHS patients. Current AHS patients are encouraged to continue attending regularly scheduled appointments and seeking support from their provider as needed. New patients who want to schedule the fire-related counseling visits may call the following locations. Let the front desk staff know that you are experiencing stress due to the wildfires.

Tribal Opioid Response Grants
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2018 Tribal Opioid Response grants (Short Title: TOR). The program aims to address the opioid crisis in tribal communities by increasing access to culturally appropriate and evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using one of the three FDA-approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD). The intent is to reduce unmet treatment need and opioid overdose related deaths through the provision of prevention, treatment and/or recovery activities for OUD.

San Juan Basin Public Health’s Single Entry Point department is hiring a Programs Case Manager. This position provides ongoing case management services to elderly and disabled individuals within La Plata County. Duties include conducting functional assessments, developing individualized service plans, nursing facility assessments, monitoring client's services and needs, adapting services to meet changing needs of clients, and entering pre-authorization requests in the Medicaid system for providers to billing. Tasks also include entering data in the state database in a timely manner and overseeing the utilization and quality of services. The applicant must have excellent organizational skills, be able to multi-task, as well as advocate for clients. A bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related filed is required.
