Pathways to Health

October 8, 2024

Did you Know?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Learn more.

In September, SWCAHEC public health training associate April Sandman, and Fort Lewis College Assistant Professor Dr. Jennifer Lowell, presented their work on "Pandemic Response Training in Southwestern Colorado: Workforce Development for Community Health Workers" at the Public Health in the Rockies conference in Keystone, Colorado. The training has equipped community health workers to effectively respond to public health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, empowering them to serve as trusted sources of information and support for the community. This initiative was made possible with the support of our funder, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The postpartum experience

Dr. Greer Kirshenbaum, PhD posed in an instagram post “What happened at your six week postpartum check up?”

Some responses included:

I felt uncomfortable and like a guinea pig.

I had my check up today and honestly it felt like a tick box exercise….

Navigating Your First Year as a Nurse: Essential Tips for New Graduates

Navigating Complexities in Youth Experiencing Suicidality

Youth with complex suicide prevention needs often seek services outside of the mental health system, but many providers report not having the skills or confidence to manage these complex cases. As a result, today’s youth may not be receiving the care they need. This ECHO series expands Partners for Children’s Mental Health’s (PCMH) first ECHO series, Pediatric Suicide Prevention: A Practical Care Pathway for Primary Care (not a prerequisite), by addressing barriers identified by providers that often arise when delivering care to suicidal youth. This advanced series builds off the Zero Suicide care pathway by educating participants about navigating family systems, using skills to manage acute emotional distress and supporting families with mental health resources.
Health care and behavioral health providers in outpatient primary care/integrated medical settings. Support staff in medical or behavioral health integrated/outpatient settings are welcome to register.

Three weekly ECHO sessions held virtually
