The Summer Health Career's Camp enables 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students an opportunity to explore the many fields of the healthcare industry, engage in hands-on activities and meet professionals from a variety of health occupations. Now Hiring New Job Positions at SWCAHEC
Executive Director
Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center (SWCAHEC) is seeking applications for its’ Executive Director position. SWCAHEC is a non-profit organization that strives to improve rural health in the eight southwest counties of Colorado. SWCAHEC has a strong emphasis on supporting rural primary care and community health, and on developing a pipeline of students who will eventually be our region’s health professionals. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership of the organization in a manner that supports and guides SWCAHEC’s mission.

Community Programs Manager
The Community Programs Manager (CPM) manages current grants and contracts related to entry level health careers, certificate programs and apprenticeships in SW Colorado. The CPM utilizes evidence-based approaches to implement the SWCAHEC mission: to improve healthcare delivery in rural and medically underserved areas throughout the region, advancing the quality and accessibility of health-related education and community and public health programming for students, professionals, and community members. SWCAHEC places a special emphasis on serving underserved populations and on promoting collaboration with existing health resources while filling gaps that affect the health of the community.

Education Liaison
The Education Liaison manages current grants and contracts related to health career pipeline programming and continuing education for healthcare providers in SW Colorado. The Liaison, which requires an active, unencumbered RN license, utilizes evidence-based approaches to implement the SWCAHEC mission and vision: to improve healthcare delivery in rural and medically underserved areas throughout the region, advancing the quality and accessibility of health-related education and community and public health programming for students, professionals, and community members. SWCAHEC places a special emphasis on serving underserved populations and on promoting collaboration with existing health resources while filling gaps that affect the health of the community.

Southwest Health System Names Karen Labonte CNO
|
Plano, Texas – December 19, 2018 – The Southwest Health System Board of Directors, along with Community Hospital Consulting, has named Karen Labonte, M.S.N., as Chief Nursing Officer of Southwest Health System. She officially joined the hospital leadership team on December 3, 2018.
|
Southwest Health System, Cortez, Colo., includes Southwest Memorial Hospital, a critical access hospital, and 10 primary care and specialty clinics. Southwest Health System has served the Four Corners U.S. region—where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and UTAH meet—for more than a century.
|
Prior to Labonte’s new role at Southwest Health System, she served for nearly seven years at Northwest Health System in Springdale, Arkansas, as their Chief Nursing Officer and more recently as their Market Chief Nursing Officer responsible for five system facilities within Norwest Arkansas.
|
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maine in Fort Kent, and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill.

The Board of Directors of the National AHEC Organization announces the selection of a new Chief Executive Officer, Dwain Harris, MHA
Dwain Harris, MHA, has accepted the new NAO CEO position beginning Jan. 21, 2019. Harris has served as the AHEC center director of the Southern Kentucky AHEC in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky for 14 years. In that role, he has worked closely with his team in all areas of the AHEC mission, including student rotations, preceptor development, health career promotion, pipeline development, continuing education and community health initiatives. Harris responds, “The NAO leadership has done such an incredible job of advancing the AHEC network in the last few years. I am honored to join this team, and I am eager to begin work strengthening our existing partnerships while cultivating new ones.” Learn more...

Community Resource Center will be placing talented, diverse AmeriCorps members to serve in nonprofits and community based organizations across rural Colorado for service beginning in 2019. Members will either build the internal capacity of your organization through CRC's AmeriCorps VISTA program, OR deliver direct services to clients and community members through our AmeriCorps STATE program. Through serving as a rural intermediary organization, CRC is excited to offer these two "streams of service" to organizations across our state.

Level 1: Health Navigation Fundamentals Join us in Arvada on Jan. 30-Feb. 1 for Health Navigation Fundamentals. Topics in this comprehensive “Level 1” training include patient communication, health promotion, professional conduct and motivational interviewing. This course will be offered quarterly, depending on demand. Our online Level 1 course will be offered in March.

Basic Motivational Interviewing Motivational interviewing is a patient-centered communication technique that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. In this interactive workshop, you will learn basic MI techniques you can use with patients to help support behavior change: open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening and summarizing. This one-day course will be offered Jan. 24 in Arvada.

San Juan Basin Public Health is hiring a Court Liaison/Care Coordinator. This position performs intensive case management for individuals involved in the criminal justice system and with mental health service needs in our region. The Court Liaison will work with clients, community and agency partners, mental healthcare providers and justice system representatives to assess clients create clear service care plans, promote timely access to care, and increase utilization of supportive and restorative services. Knowledge of behavioral health, community resources, and the justice system desired. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, human services, criminal justice or related field and one year of case management related experience. The wage range for this position is $19.24 to $27.90 plus benefits. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.
