A safe, stable and affordable home is key to good health, yet Coloradans living in rural communities are hit particularly hard by housing barriers unique to the places they call ‘home.’

Hear from leaders, local experts and people who’ve experienced housing insecurity at our upcoming Symposium Unplugged: Sparking Ideas for Healthy Homes in Rural Colorado on Thursday, Nov. 7. You'll have the opportunity to learn about innovations underway in Chaffee County and across the region and explore what’s needed to ensure safe, stable and affordable homes can become a reality for all. The event is designed to foster shared learning, networking and collaboration among attendees. Participants are asked to come prepared to share resources, engage in conversation with fellow attendees and make meaningful connections.

Rural Suicide Prevention in Farm and Ranch Communities

This FREE Webinar is designed for rural providers, organizations, and communities across the nation.It is being presented to commemorate National Rural Health Day, in conjunction with the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy's multi-day activities.

The purpose of this webinar is to enhance knowledge of stress and suicide in rural areas, with a focus on farm and ranch communities, and to highlight stress/suicide prevention activities. The webinar will feature examples of suicide prevention programs designed to address agricultural stress and suicide from a community-based perspective. Presenters include Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE), LivingWorks, and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Suicide prevention resources will be provided.

Outbreak Response Training

Presented by Elaine Scallan, PhD (ColoradoSPH) and Ingrid Hewitson, MPH (CDPHE)

This intensive half-day course will train students in interview techniques used in foodborne disease outbreak investigations. Students who complete the course will be added to a “Rapid Responder” list and could be invited to assist in outbreak investigations coordinated by the CDPHE and possibly other local public health agencies. ColoradoSPH AMC students in the beginning or middle of their program are encouraged to attend. An additional training for CSU students will be offered in spring 2020.
