Did You Know?

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a drastic impact on screening,
with some cancer screenings declining by 90%.

The NFL league and the American Cancer Society have allocated resources dedicated to safely restarting cancer screenings in communities with the most need.

This month, the NFL launched its “Crucial Catch” initiative which focuses on people getting screened to catch cancer early when it may be easier to treat.

The training program, Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) is intended to be similar to a standard CPR course, which teaches non-medical professionals to assist
with cardiac emergencies.

QPR is a brief (1.5 hours) gatekeeper training that teaches individuals how to support people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts while also seeking professional services.

It is an evidence-based training that teaches participants how to recognize possible signs of suicidal ideation (serious thoughts about taking one's own life), suicide plans and suicide attempts, how to talk with someone who is contemplating suicide, and how to connect with resources for the individual.

QPR instructors are available to facilitate trainings on campus and in the community.
