Welcome Guest Speaker, Dr. Jean Watson!
Jean Watson, PHD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, (LL-AAN) is the Founder and Director of the non-profit foundation, Watson Caring Science Institute, and a Distinguished Professor and Dean Emerita at the University of Colorado Denver, College of Nursing Anschutz Medical Center campus, where she held the nation’s first endowed Chair in Caring Science for 16 years. She is founder of the original Center for Human Caring in Colorado and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing; past President of the National League for Nursing; founding member of International Association in Human Caring and International Caritas Consortium.

Today, clinical nurses and academic programs throughout the world use her published works on the philosophy and theory of human caring and the art and science of caring in nursing. Dr. Watson’s caring philosophy is used to guide transformative models of caring and healing practices for hospitals, nurses and patients alike, in diverse settings worldwide.
|
Her entire life career has been devoted to the phenomena of human caring, and inner subjective feelings, emotions and experiences. However, it was not until she experienced human caring from her own personal experiences from the inside did she truly understand her own work at another level. Hear her story on March 15th at the Nightingale Luminary and STAR awards.

"In nursing we are always giving, not expecting anything in return. We are asked to do many things for our patients and the providers we work with, always accepting any challenge with a smile. We strive to provide the highest quality of care to our patients, and are always thinking about how we can do it better. Knowing we have helped someone and made their life better is really all that matters. With that said, last year I was surprised with a nomination for the Nightingale Award, by the providers I work with, for my Innovation. This was such a huge honor and words can not explain how much it meant to me to be recognized by these providers for all the hard work I have put in. I was honored with the Luminary Award for Innovation and went to Denver for the statewide Nightingale Award Ceremony. It was amazing to be among 54 other nurses from across the state and hear all there accomplishments. It was so inspirational, but also humbling to be amongst these exceptional nurses. This was an experience I will never forget, and an honor that I will never be able to express enough how much it meant to me."
