Omicron boosters now available in La Plata, Archuleta counties

(September 7, 2022): The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has begun distributing supply of the COVID-19 omicron booster vaccine and doses are available in both Archuleta and La Plata counties. This vaccine was formulated to provide maximum protection against the COVID-19 omicron variant, which is the predominant strain circulating in the United States. San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) urges the community to get the omicron booster to protect themselves against infection heading into the fall and winter. Read the full press release here.

IHI Finding and Creating Joy in Work

To help reverse the worrying trend, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) partnered with experts around the world to create Finding and​ Creating Joy in Work, beginning September 14, 2022. This ​​online course with coaching is full of new thinking, resources, strategies, frameworks​, and solutions will help workforces truly thrive — not just survive. ​

The learning format of this online course includes six weeks of biweekly video content, three all-learner calls, and an opportunity for added coaching​. The course will share proven quality improvement (QI) ​​methods to create a positive work environment that fosters camaraderie, meaning, choice, and equity, and ensures the commitment to delivering high-quality care, ev​en in stressful times. ​

Rheumatology in Primary Care 
Case Review

Rheumatology in Primary Care Case Review is a new, monthly, free, drop-in opportunity designed for Colorado-based primary care providers (MD, DO, NP, PA) to discuss rheumatology topics of their choice and receive feedback from a rheumatology specialist.

This ongoing series will allow participants to share de-identified cases, including de-identified patient imaging, and ask questions for peer-to-peer and specialist consultation to support one another in patient diagnosis
and management.

San Juan Basin Public Health is hiring an Environmental Health Specialist I to perform inspections and investigations in one or more areas of food safety, childcare facilities, water quality, wastewater treatment, and other related areas. Incumbents, as assigned, conduct compliance inspections; review applications, plans and designs; investigate complaints and determine areas of non-compliance; conduct sampling; and assist in epidemiological and zoonotic investigations. This position may be based out of the SJBPH Durango or Pagosa Springs offices, as preferred. A bachelor’s degree in a physical, biological, sanitary, environmental or health science and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is sufficient to successfully perform the job. Benefits for full-time employees include medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending account, employee assistance program, wellness program, paid time off, retirement plan, life insurance, and supplemental insurance. This position is scheduled to close September 16, 2022, or when an adequate pool is reached. The hiring range for this position is $20.47 to $23.76 an hour. San Juan Basin Public Health is hiring a Programs Supervisor - Specialized for the newly created Opioid Risk Reduction program. The Programs Supervisor - Specialized responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to support program efforts, maintaining a network of resources for participant referrals, providing HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling services for program participants, providing screening and referral services, providing syringe access services and harm reduction education to program participants, and providing overdose prevention training and education for program participants and the public. Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, human services, or other applicable degrees or related field and two years of human services or public health programs related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Benefits for exempt employees and non-exempt employees, 80% or more, are Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Flexible Spending Account, Employee Assistance Program, Wellness Program, Paid Time Off, Retirement Plan, Life Insurance and Supplemental Insurance.
