In a study that monitored the breakfast eating habits of over 4,000 subjects free of heart disease or diabetes, researchers found a clear association between missing or skimping on breakfast and early markers for heart disease and diabetes. Researchers found that those who skipped or ate a very light breakfast were at increased risk for developing heart disease with the skippers being at most risk. Relative to the regular breakfast eaters, these two groups (skippers and skimpers) also had bigger waistlines, more body fat, as well as higher blood pressure, blood lipids and blood glucose. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is pleased to announce the release of the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Request for Applications (RFA #6342).

This five-year RFA is a combined effort of cancer prevention programs at the CDPHE to promote and improve prevention and early detection of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer among underserved Coloradans. The following programs have joined together to coordinate efforts across various cancer types and strategies:

  • Women's Wellness Connection (WWC)

  • Colorectal Cancer Control Program (CRCCP)

  • Comprehensive Cancer Program (CCP)

Improving Access to Overdose Treatment


The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), is accepting applications for Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 Improving Access to Overdose Treatment (Short Title: OD Treatment Access). SAMHSA will award OD Treatment Access funds to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), Opioid Treatment Programs, or practitioners who have a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine to expand access to Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs or devices for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. Recipients will partner with other prescribers at the community level to develop best practices for prescribing and co-prescribing FDA-approved overdose reversal drugs. After developing best practices, the recipients will train other prescribers in key community sectors as well as individuals who support persons at high risk for overdose.

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, business administration or directly related field and five years of financial analysis or accounting experience including two years of public sector experience. The pay range for this position is $25.92 to $38.89 per hour plus benefits. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.
