Executive Director

Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center (SWCAHEC) is seeking applications for its’ Executive Director position. SWCAHEC is a non-profit organization that strives to improve rural health in the eight southwest counties of Colorado. SWCAHEC has a strong emphasis on supporting rural primary care and community health, and on developing a pipeline of students who will eventually be our region’s health professionals. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership of the organization in a manner that supports and guides SWCAHEC’s mission.

Education Liaison

The Education Liaison manages current grants and contracts related to health career pipeline programming and continuing education for healthcare providers in SW Colorado. The Liaison, which requires an active, unencumbered RN license, utilizes evidence-based approaches to implement the SWCAHEC mission and vision: to improve healthcare delivery in rural and medically underserved areas throughout the region, advancing the quality and accessibility of health-related education and community and public health programming for students, professionals, and community members. SWCAHEC places a special emphasis on serving underserved populations and on promoting collaboration with existing health resources while filling gaps that affect the health of the community.

Students with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work are eligible for a one-year Masters of Social Work program in the Four Corners.

The University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work is accepting applications for the Advanced Standing MSW program starting in the summer of 2019. Classes are taught in Durango, at the DU campus in The Commons building. Stipends in child welfare, integrated behavioral health care are available. Native American tuition support to eligible students is also available.

Axis is excited to share that we're able to offer ASIST, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, in Cortez to community partners.
The training is FREE.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.

The training is Thursday, February 7th and Friday, February 8th
9:00am – 4:00pm at Cortez Integrated Healthcare on 691 E. Empire Street. Space is limited, so PLEASE register as soon as possible!

AMA, Colorado Medical Society and Manatt Health Release Study of
Colorado's Efforts to Reverse Opioid Epidemic
Spotlight analysis finds progress made on numerous fronts, recommends next steps for policymakers, insurers and physicians

The American Medical Association (AMA), Colorado Medical Society (CMS) and Manatt Health released a report today that shows Colorado has implemented meaningful reforms in response to the opioid epidemic though further steps are needed to save even more lives.

The Colorado spotlight analysis found that progress is being made to increase access to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders, several pilot projects have improved care for patients with pain, and increased access to the opioid overdose-reversing drug naloxone has resulted in thousands of lives saved.

Community Resource Center will be placing talented, diverse AmeriCorps members to serve in nonprofits and community based organizations across rural Colorado for service beginning in 2019. Members will either build the internal capacity of your organization through CRC's AmeriCorps VISTA program, OR deliver direct services to clients and community members through our AmeriCorps STATE program. Through serving as a rural intermediary organization, CRC is excited to offer these two "streams of service" to organizations across our state.

New grant funding allows program to offer scholarships


The Patient Navigator Training Collaborative (PNTC) is excited to announce that the program has been awarded a two-year grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. This funding allows the PNTC to offer financial assistance to individuals and programs, based on need. Full or partial scholarships are available. Applicants must be from Colorado and will still be responsible for a nominal fee of $25 per day of training ($75 for a 3-day Level 1: Health Navigation Fundamentals) to help offset food and administrative costs.

Topics in this comprehensive “Level 1” training include patient communication, health promotion, professional conduct and motivational interviewing. This course will be offered quarterly, depending on demand. Our online Level 1 course will be offered in March.

The Strategic Initiatives Coordinator's Responsibilities Include:
  • Coordinate and facilitate implementation of provider education activities in Jefferson County.
  • Collect data from surveys and focused interviews to help inform educational activities.
  • Support and enhance the capacity of a local multidisciplinary coalition to address drug misuse, abuse and overdose prevention in Jefferson County using a collective action framework.
  • Collect and evaluate data to illustrate the scope of opioid and drug use in Jefferson County, assess service gaps, and identify opportunities to address the needs of individuals, families, and communities affected by drug use and overdose.
  • Engage and collaborate with existing coalitions, workgroups, and communities working in areas related to substance use prevention, misuse, treatment, recovery and harm reduction.
  • Collect and apply information on best practices and program models to respond to the opioid epidemic.
  • Collaborate with Syringe Services Program (SSP) staff at JCPH regarding harm reduction and overdose prevention services.

This position conducts assessments, determines eligibility, and develops case management plans for each client in addition to coordinating services with other human services provides. Successful candidates will have excellent ability to maintain written documentation. A bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, human services or related field plus one year of case management experience is required. The wage range for this position is $19.24 to $27.90 an hour plus benefits. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, appointments are typically made at or near the range minimum.
