Did You Know?
We would like to thank Kathleen McInnis for all her hard work and dedication as the Executive Director of the Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center. You will be missed! Best of luck Kathleen in your future
endeavors!

KMcInnis
My Dear Colleagues,
With a very sad heart, yet excitement for the future, I am writing to let you know that I will be retiring from my position as Executive Director at Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center, effective February 1, 2019. I want to thank each of you for partnering with AHEC and working with us to improve access to quality healthcare in our rural and frontier region! I have enjoyed and very much appreciated working with and learning from each of you. Building collaborations and capacity, and strengthening the healthcare workforce in this region has been and will continue to be a passion for me and I believe we have really made a difference over the past six years!
I know that the good work will continue. I leave AHEC in a strong position and in very capable hands, with the current team: Mary Dengler-Frey, Jeanette Abella, Rusty Connor, Ke Zhang, and Kerri Cardin. AHEC would not be what it is today without these amazing, dedicated people believing in our mission and striving each and every day to make a difference!
I’d also like to introduce you to the new, interim Executive Director, JoDee Powers! JoDee draws her career experiences from the public health and workforce sectors and has lived in the region, currently in Cortez, for many years. Jodee will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the AHEC table- please join me in welcoming her to this new role. Feel free to reach out to her or any of the team members if you have questions.
Thank you again, for your partnership and friendship. I look forward to our paths crossing in the future.
All my Best,
Kathleen

The "Optimal Wellness Through Nutrition:
Living an Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle" workshop
will be held February 23rd 2019 from 8:50 am to 1:30 pm.
Durango Public Library, 1900 E. 3rd Avenue, Durango

This is the third of three wellness workshops made possible in part by a grant from the Colorado Cancer Coalition, Colorado Cancer Fund, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and most-recently the LPEA Round-Up Foundation. Research continually shows links between food, health, and disease. We know there are foods that may decrease our wellness, as well as foods that nourish and protect. Join us to learn how food and lifestyle choices have the capacity to fight inflammation and support overall health.
The workshop features Dr. Sarah Goodpastor, obesity and weight management physician from Mercy Internal Medicine, Susie Young, oncology certified registered dietician, and Missy Rodey, senior health advisor and former nutrition educator. The event is open to the general public, as well as cancer patients, survivors, their friends, caregivers, and health care professionals. Cost is $10 per person, which includes lunch catered by BLOOM Café.
Space is limited, so please register online at www.blueprintsofhope.org, or call 970-403-3711.
