Nearly 80% of heroin users report misusing a prescription opioid prior to trying heroin. ²

The Colorado Area Health Education Centers are pleased to present a new online training to address the growing opioid epidemic in Colorado. Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. Opioid Use Disorder affects people in all communities.

The free, online self-paced training will provide community health workers throughout Colorado with the tools needed to lead the change in their communities. Trainees will gain knowledge in treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and more. A community health worker is someone working within their community to improve health and is open to all in Colorado.

1. Intro to Opioid Use
Gain understanding of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and the scope of the crisis.

2. Ethics
Prepare to respond to ethical challenges related to patient rights, laws, and guidelines.

Be equipped to promote safe use, storage, and disposal.

4. Stigma reduction
